We are absolutely delighted to be working with BNTAC and the BAC on this Keep K’gari Pristine Project and feel so grateful to have their support and guidance on this journey. The Butchulla Native Title Aboriginal Corporation (BNTAC) cares for Butchulla Country that includes mainland areas west to Bauple Mountain, North to the mouth of the Burrum River, South to Double Island Point and the waters & Islands of the Great Sandy Straits and up to the high water mark on K’gari.
Butchulla people have always recognised “ that the wellbeing of the people is intricately linked to the health and sustainability of the environment, “Country”. BNTAC’s Caring for Country Strategy, promotes the concept of a healthy Country through conservation and sustainable land and sea management practices. It instils “a sense of responsibility and respect for Country within the community” and promotes healthy land and sea ecosystems that are free from man-made pollutants. Education, especially when it comes to the next generation of custodians is so important to Butchulla as it is for us at Team Drop Bear.
The BAC’s vision is to uphold customary laws/lore that has governed Butchulla people’s relationship with K’gari since creation. The BAC aims to care for K’gari and build strong partnerships to maintain the unique cultural and natural values. This then keeps in line with our traditional obligations and future aspirations of the Butchulla community.
