Location: K’gari (Fraser Island), Queensland
Employment Type: 3-month contract, minimum 33 hours a week 

Start Date: 8th January 2027

As a Host at our Eco Retreat, you’ll not only help create unforgettable experiences for guests, but also enjoy the freedom to explore the island on your days off. This role is for a couple or two friends applying together, as the accommodation provided is a shared queen or twin room.

Sign on for three months, with the option to extend in blocks, and become part of a team that’s passionate about nature, sustainability, and making magic happen.

As a Host at The Eco Retreat, you’ll play a vital role in creating a smooth and enjoyable experience for guests visiting K’gari on our 3 day guided tours. You’ll manage the daily operations of our off-grid retreat and self catered accomodation. Providing hospitality services and helping maintain the property to ensure guests can fully immerse themselves in the natural beauty of the island. The role is perfect for someone with a passion for the outdoors, hospitality, and sustainable living.

You’ll be the heartbeat of our eco-friendly retreat, from cooking meals, cleaning rooms during change overs, to maintaining vehicles, ensuring that every detail is taken care of for our guests. This job is dynamic and fast-paced, requiring flexibility and a hands-on attitude.

Hospitality & Guest Services:

  • Welcome and assist guests throughout their stay, ensuring they have a comfortable and unforgettable experience.
  • Housekeeping: Making beds, cleaning rooms, and general housekeeping duties to maintain a clean and inviting environment. Keeping up with washing (tea towels, bath mats, cleaning cloths) and maintaining the cleanliness of the kitchen. Cleaning fridges and washing up after meals.
  • Food Preparation & Cooking ensuring all meals meet our eco-retreat’s standards of sustainability and quality.

    Property Maintenance & Environmental Stewardship:

    • Gardening & Landscaping: Watering plants, mowing lawns, weeding, and trimming garden borders to keep the retreat looking its best.
    • Maintenance & DIY Tasks: Perform light repairs, such as fixing fly screens, cleaning gutters, chopping firewood, and checking fluid levels in our 4WD vehicles. Ensure our vehicles are clean, operational, and ready for guest use.

    Off-Grid Living Support:

    • Manage and oversee the eco-retreat’s off-grid systems, including solar power, water conservation, and composting.
    • Help guide guests in understanding the sustainability principles we follow on the island.

    Team Leading:

    • Work closely with the founders on managing the team and projects
    • Lead by exceptional example and spend quality time with your team exploring K’gari on days off and in downtime hours
    • The base hourly rate is $26.70 (weekday), with higher rates on weekends. A $320 weekly deduction covers accommodation, meals, use of a 4WD vehicle, and includes a $20 personal food allowance.

    • Making beds, cleaning guest rooms, and general housekeeping
    • Cooking meals and managing the cleanliness of shared kitchen spaces
    • Maintaining cleanliness in the kitchen and fridges
    • Keeping up with laundry, including washing tea towels, bath mats, and cleaning cloths
    • Mowing lawns, weeding, and caring for the retreat’s gardens
    • Regular vehicle checks (fluid levels, cleanliness) and maintaining 4WDs
    • Light DIY tasks, such as fixing fly screens, replacing washers, and cleaning gutters
    • Chopping firewood and ensuring supplies for guest use
    • Managing waste disposal and recycling in line with our sustainability practices
    • Australian resident or valid work visa holder
    • Full manual driver’s license with a minimum of 5 years of driving experience and no recent driving offences.
    • Leadership Experience:
      Previous experience in a leadership role, preferably in hospitality or tourism, is highly desirable.
    • Strong Communication & Time Management Skills:
      You must be organized, efficient, and ready to tackle challenges in a fast-paced environment.
    • Problem-Solving Ability:
      You’re adaptable and have experience finding solutions when working in remote settings.
    • Interview Process:
      Successful applicants will be required to attend three interviews (telephone, video, and an in-person trial day in Noosa).
    • Note:
      Unfortunately, this role does not count towards the 88-day working holiday visa requirement.

    Fleet Manager / Mechanic

    Our New Mechanic
    Location: Noosa, QLD (with periodic travel to K’gari)

    Salary Package: $89,500 ($75,000 base + bonuses + 13% super)

    We are looking for a practical-minded mechanic to join our team at Drop Bear Adventures in the heart of Noosas industrial estate. We offer award-winning guided adventure tours and accommodation on K’gari (Fraser Island). Founded by Mark and Hana, youd be joining us in leading the tourism industry on Kgari. 

    We are a team of genuine, hard-working and fun-loving adventure and life enthusiasts that love what we do. Our fleet of 4WDs is essential to keeping our tours running smoothly, and we are looking for someone who wants to join us in striving for improvement by taking ownership of the workshop. 

    We have a great workshop in Noosa that is fully kitted out and has 2 hoists. Youll be working with our Logistics and Office Manager to help us, as a team, provide the most amazing 4WD adventure to the island for our incredibly grateful guests. You will help us maintain our vehicles to a high standard. Note that they are all fitted with bull/nudge bars, bash plates, lift kits, Super Fit seat covers and you will have a super reasonable budget to buy parts to maintain them well. 

    This is a position with real autonomy and trust. You’ll be responsible for:

    • Maintaining and repairing the and fleet and completing the maintenance schedule for each vehicle.
    • Working with our Logistics Manager to treat and repair rust.
    • Order parts and manage a budget for repairs, tools and recovery.
    • Planning servicing around tour operations to minimise downtime
    • Working closely with the founders, guides and island operations team to ensure preventive maintenance schedules are followed
    • Be a tidy and responsible Drop Bear by keeping your workspace organised, safe and efficient.
    • Qualified or really experienced Light Vehicle or Diesel Mechanic
    • A love of Toyota’s and a gift for keeping them on the road
    • An open mind about the Mahindra’s, they’ll surprise you
    • Able to plan, prioritise and work methodically
    • Comfortable running a workshop, diagnostics and making sound decisions
    • Good communicator, you’ll need to be or grow to be comfortable with giving feedback and guiding the team on how best to look after our fleet.
    • Reliable and flexible
    • Manual licence required ideally HR or willing to learn.
    • 4WDriving and 4WD recovery experience is a bonus (but not essential) as you may need to travel to K’gari for on-site vehicle servicing or repair occasionally.

    This role is designed to support work/life balance: approx 36 hours a week 

    • 34 hours from Monday to Friday
    • 4 hours 2 Saturdays a month
    • Start between 6-8am
    • Finish between 2-4pm
    • 2 Days off a week- Wednesdays/Saturdays and Sundays off depending on the roster.

        • Ability to work independently and as part of a team that spans across Noosa and the Island
        • Flexibility and a love for the outdoors in all weather conditions
