1. Guided Tour Packages and Activities

Tours offer a hassle free visit, are mostly an all inclusive option and a guide to make your trip even more memorable. Tours to the vary in duration, activities included, and group sizes and consist mainly of 2 types; tours in 4WD’s and tours in buses. You can also book walking tours but they are very seasonal. The cost of tours of course depend on the operator, the type of tour, and the number of participants. and of course the longer you stay the more you sea.

Travelling by 4WD is essential to get around K’gari Fraser Island. If you want to drive yourself you will need your own 4WD or rent one.
We hire our 4WD from Noosa where you can drive to Rainbow Beach to catch the ferry but you can also hire from Rainbow itself and Hervey Bay. Once you pick up your 4WD tiy will drive to the barge port on the mainland to catch your lift to the island island,
Ferry tickets are priced differently for pedestrians, vehicles, and camping equipment. The cost varies depending on the time of year, the provider, and the type of vehicle or equipment being transported. It’s recommended to book in advance to secure the best price (and availability).
Manta Ray, which operates the ferry from Rainbow Beach (Inskip Point), currently charges $140 return for a 4WD vehicle and all passengers. SeaLink ferry prices for the crossing from River Heads (near Hervey Bay) vary based on size of the 4WD vehicle, peak and off-peak crossings, and number of passengers.
You also need a Vehicle Access Permits when you hire a 4WD. This is a permit is currently $57.80 for one month or less, although this is subject to change. and finally fuel costs which vary depending on how long you go for and where you hire from. As a guide line budget for $80 a day. Transportation typically tends to be the biggest expense for travellers visiting the island without a tour.
Accommodation Options
K’gari Fraser Island offers a range of accommodation options to suit various budgets and preferences. From luxurious resorts to budget-friendly camping grounds, there is something for everyone here! Resort stays obviously come at a higher price, while camping fees are more affordable. There are also lots of individually owned holiday rentals which give you more of a feel for island life like our secluded self-contained beach units at the Haven that start from $230 mid week and $290 a night on weekends.
We don’t provide any camping services but you can camp on the island of course though it is not advised if you have young children. Camping on the island requires permits, which you’ll need to purchase in advance – there may be restrictions on the number of permits issued per camping area, so book this before you arrive. Camping permits are currently $7.25 per person, per night. There is also a family rate available, which includes two adults and three to six children for $29. Check prices in advance when booking online.
Food and Dining
As an island destination, the cost of food and dining on K’gari Fraser Island is higher compared to the mainland. The island has a limited number of restaurants and cafes, which are located in Eurong, Kingfisher, Happy Valley and Cathedral Beach. We advise to bring your own food and utilise the cooking facilities you have at your holiday accommodation. This option will reduce your expenses significantly! If you’re planning on cooking your own meals, stock up on food and groceries on the mainland before getting to Fraser Island (K’gari) to keep costs low. Alcoholic drinks are also more expensive on the island, so make a run to the bottle shop before arriving if you’re planning on enjoying a few bevies on the island.
